E.U. Certification : Marine Equipment Directive (M.E.D.)
Bureau Veritas is a " Notified Body " (N.B. N° 0062) to perform design and production conformity assessments of all the marine equipment listed in the Annex A.1 to the Directive on marine equipment ( Council Directive 96/98/EC, as amended, M.E.D.).

Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) : Type-Approval of Marine Equipment (UK Nominated Bodies)
Bureau Veritas has been appointed by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) as a "UK Nominated Body", in pursuance of the Merchant Shipping Notice MSN 1735 (M+F) Amendment N°2, February 2003, for Type Approval of statutory equipment, other than those eligible to the M.E.D. certification.

French Maritime Administration (MMF and MMF/PL) : Type-Approval of Marine Equipment
Bureau Veritas has been appointed by the French Maritime Administration (MMF) as a " Notified Body" ("Organisme Reconnu"), in pursuance of Chapter 140-2 of the French Regulations, as per Arrêté of 23 November 1987 , as amended by the Arrêté of 7 April 1999 , for Type Approval of statutory equipment, other than those eligible to the M.E.D. certification.

United States Coast Guard (USCG) : Design and Production Conformity Assessment of Marine Equipment
Bureau Veritas is a "USCG Accepted Independent Laboratory" to perform design and production conformity assessments of dedicated marine equipment, in pursuance of Code of Federal Regulations, Title 46.

Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) : Type-Approval of Marine Equipment
In pursuance of the Agreement governing the Provision of Survey and Cerification Services for Vessels Registered in Australia, signed on 1 September 2000, all the Certificates of Type Approval related to Statutory equipment, issued by Bureau Veritas are recognized by AMSA for acceptance of related items of equipment on board ships.

Marine equipment certification
Since January 1st, 1999, designated equipment to be placed on board European (EU and associated EEA countries Norway and Iceland) ships has to bear a special marine mark of conformity to the relevant technical standards : the wheel mark (¤).
Designated equipment includes lifesaving appliances, marine pollution prevention equipment, fire protection equipment, navigation equipment and radio communications equipment.
Bureau Veritas, as one of the leading notified bodies recognised in the industry, can provide services to shipowners, shipyards and equipment manufacturers everywhere in relation to the EU marine equipment conformity mark.
Bureau Veritas is also authorised by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (UK), AMSA (Australia) and MMF (France) to issue national type approval certificates under their authority.
