About BV publications
R&D studies made in various fields by engineers and technicians from the Bureau Veritas Marine Division, resulted in the printing of numerous publications available in English, French and Spanish.
These publications can be classed in four categories :
They provide information about the classification of ship, including explanations of the requirements for initial classification, the significance of classification "Marks & Notations " and the survey requirements for maintaining class. It covers steel ships, aluminium alloy ships, fibre-reinforced plastic ships, materials for steel ships and offshore installations, high-speed craft, yachts, submersibles, mobile offshore units, inland navigation vessels, wooden fishing vessels, 5.5 m international class yachts, offshore platforms, fish farms, lifting appliances, and floating hotels and hospitals.
Bureau Veritas publishes also Rule Notes which may be considered as regulations or as provisionnal regulations.
Bureau Veritas publishes Guidance Notes on specific technical subjects such as fatigue strength of welded ship structures, Centralised Navigation Control (CNC), securing of containers on board ship, and certification of lifesaving appliances and arrangements. These notes generally prefigure requirements which will subsequently be incorporated in the Rules.
Registers
Bureau Veritas publishes annually two Register books.
1) The Register of Ships provides information on all BV-classed ships. Ship identification, classification and main particulars of hull and propulsion machinery are available. These data can be consulted on this site.
2) Inland Navigation Register contains information on identification, classification, technical characteristics of boats navigating on rivers, lakes, estuaries etc. with a list of owners.
Other publications
Bureau Veritas published various technical publications relating to classification and certification matters and on maritime safety in general.
