BV Rules and Regulations
Bureau Veritas develops Rules as well as Guidance and Rules Notes for the benefit of businesses and the marine industry. They are based on advanced technologies such as semi-probabilistic concept and risk analysis and on the experience gained in the marine field through services provided to its customers over the years.

Rules
These Rules give the requirements for the assignment and the maintenance of classification for seagoing steel ships.

These Rules are applicable to the hull structure of single side skin or double side skin bulk carriers over 90 m in length (NR 522) and to the double hull oil tankers over 150 m in length (NR 523).

These Rules are applicable to the manufacture, inspection and certification of rolled products, tubes, forgings, castings, anchors, chain cables, welding consumables and various components used for the construction of marine units to be classed with Bureau Veritas in accordance with the applicable Classification Rules for the concerned unit.

These Rules give the requirements for the assignment and the maintenance of classification for offshore units such as for example surface units, submersible units, semi-submersible units, self elevating units, SPAR, TLP, buoys, etc. They are not applicable to bottom founded fixed platforms.

These Rules are applicable to seagoing surface naval ships and detail the requirements for the assignment and the maintenance of Bureau Veritas classification of ships.

These Rules are applicable to ships intended for pleasure cruising with a lenght not exceeding 100 m, and detail the requirements for the assignment and the maintenance of sailing ships and motor vessels, monohull type or catamaran type built in steel, aluminium, composite materials or wood.

These Rules are applicable to all vessels designed and operated for inland navigation and related activities.

These Rules are applicable to seagoing high speed passenger craft or cargo craft, monohull type or catamaran type, built in steel, aluminium or composite materials. These Rules include a large part of the IMO HSC Code – MSC. 97(73).

These Rules are applicable to ships constructed of steel and intended for navigation in ice-infested polar waters, except icebreakers and give the requirements for the assignment of one of the additional class notations.

These Rules are applicable to lifting appliances fitted on ships, floating supports, fixed or mobile offshore platforms and used at harbour for loading or unloading operations, in offshore conditions for lifting operations and at sea for launching and recovering diving devices.
