Training is a bare necessity for all businesses, ever more in a controlled and fast changing environment like the maritime environment. Responsible companies are keen to improve personnel standards and qualifications and staff understanding on key issues.
The training services provided by the Marine Division of Bureau Veritas are built upon the skills gained from more than 180 years of experience in ship’s inspection and design review. Bureau Veritas classes close to 10,000 ships totaling around 90 Million Gross Tonnage and performs 25,000 surveys and 8,000 audits approximately per year.

Courses can be delivered in an open format, where people from different companies come and exchange views and ideas amongst themselves, as well as with the Bureau Veritas tutors, in-house, dedicated to your own staff, either in your own premises or in another suitable location or in the new e-learning format (described below).

Training needs differ and time and geographical constraints prevail. Cognizant of these strong business limitations, Bureau Veritas has reviewed its training offer and complemented it in order to better attend your needs, providing both tutored in-door training courses and self-training through “E-learning” and webinars.
Bureau Veritas Business School - BVBS: In order to be able to deliver a high quality e-service, Bureau Veritas has acquired a dedicated school in Spain with more than 10 years of experience in e-learning, aiming to answering to any training necessity from one particular person to a whole company, through a large offer of e-learning modules, incorporating the most modern technology to supporting the learning process of our students in any part of the world. With a team of more than 100 teachers and high qualified professionals in collaboration with many worldwide well-known entities, we can guarantee the quality of all programs offered inside or outside the maritime industry.
With these new facilities, Bureau Veritas Marine Division is therefore now in a capacity to provide the training you need, i.e.:

E-learning: addressed to anyone interested in a subject, it provides basic training with imbedded self-test facilities, and upon satisfactory completion gives rise to the issue of a training attestation;

Webinars: stand-alone or complementary to the E-Learning, it provides through on-line tutorials detailed tuition on specific subjects;

Tutored in-door training sessions: more specifically addressed to senior staff that has managerial functions or specific responsibilities in their business for the implementation of new regulatory requirements. It offers across a large scope of topics and all over the world in Quality, Environment, Health and Safety and Social Accountability Management systems, in more than 70 countries around the world. The Marine Division of Bureau Veritas proposes a wide range of training courses dealing with several aspects of ship’s design, rules and regulations, ship’s operation, ISM and ISPS certification, ILO Convention, etc. as presented in the BV Training Catalogue.

Advanced Training Sessions: it provides detailed information on specialized subjects (e.g. risk assessment) or a specific qualification (e.g. internal auditor) to enhance the knowledge acquired from the e-learning and webinars. The advanced trainings may also be useful to teach the attendees how to help their Company in developing their management systems (ISM, ISPS, MLC, etc) and how to internally verify the full compliance by performing internal audits and inspections. On those cases BV delivers certificates for those manager officers that have successfully attended the final examinations.
2012 Challenge: The Maritime Labour Convention
With 25 signatory countries to the Convention end of March 2012, the ratification process is close to completion, and a little more than one year remains for the estimated 55,000 vessels to prepare for the MLC certification.
